Various models for Mantic Games

Wow, it's been a while since we've updated the blog, as those who also follow our Facebook page can probably tell. Bit of an image fest with this post showing various stuff Maz has recently done as rapid-turnaround jobs for Mantic Games. All of these are painted at around the high end tabletop sort of level of quality, as ever you can click on the images for larger views. Above is Ba'su'su the Vile, a Gargoyle hero for the Abyssal Dwarfs army.

Apostate Preacher of Nurgle

A quick job in one night (about 5 hours total work) for the Forgeworld Open Day painting competition. Didn't win, but it's helped me figure out a nice basing method for some Nurgle marines I want to do for myself at some point... Bigger image by clicking on the image above as usual.

King Leoncour of Brettonnia

And another job finished. This is the metal version of King Leoncour on his Hippogriff. A really nice model, and one I enjoyed painting greatly, despite having to do the banner twice after creasing it when gluing it on... As luck would have it the second one is better, if a little bright. Nice to paint something that isn't a Space Marine (Games Workshop TM, lol) for a change. As ever, click the images for a larger view.

Black Templarised Huron and Claudio

Eeesh, I've not updated the blog in a while (check out our facebook page for more frequent updates).
Anyway, I recently converted up a Forgeworld Lugft Huron into a Black Templar marshal, and a Claudio from Space Hulk into a Templar Assault Terminator. These were based and painted to match a previous commission from the same client. Click the images for larger views.

Blood Angels Venerable Dreadnought

Venerable dreadnought completed for the Blood Angels. Last model in that commission. As ever, you can click the image for a larger view.

I've also added a link to the Winterdyne Commission Modelling Facebook Page. Quite often I post updates there before this blog is updated, plus you can message me with enquiries and so forth.

3rd Blood Angels Assault Squad

The third and final assault squad in the Blood Angels army I'm working on. As ever you can click the images for a larger view. Bear in mind these are TABLETOP pieces, not competition grade, so things aren't quite as tight as I might have done them if I were devoting more time to it. I may go back and revisit all the chainswords in the whole army in the final tweaks phase to add some wear and tear, it's been noted they're a bit clean at the moment...

Shoulder pad detail sculpts by Chris Straw

A quick job by Chris Straw to sculpt insignia discs and laurel wreaths onto some Forge World Tartaros pattern Terminator shoulder pads. These will be sent as-is to the client.

We don't just do painting, y'see. As usual, you can click the image for a larger view.

Bushido Commission completed

Chris has completed the Bushido commision now. These pictures are of the varnished, ready product. I've not really had the time to retake the previous pics to a good enough standard (really need to get a decent photo studio set up), but they're all the same finish (Windsor & Newton Galleria Satin). I find this is about the nicest general-purpose varnish; keeps the colour saturation up and isn't too glossy. I think the Samurai above is one of my favourite ever miniatures. Really nice (and my, he is a big chap!). As usual, click the images for a larger view...

SIlver in Golden Demon UK 2012!

The Titan finally got done (actually with a couple of days to spare for tweaking and so on).

And it got Silver in Diorama! The piece that took Gold also took the Sword (overall trophy) so basically it looks very much like I came 2nd to the Sword! Which is a bit weird for just my 3rd time out.

I'd like to take a moment to shout out to the other painters and folks met at GDUK (and the pre-show painters' dinner, which was loads of fun). See you all again next year, and I'll try and organise the suite again for a mini pre-show show. As we didn't know we'd get that untl we were in it (and it was scarcely believable!) we didn't use it to full advantage. Next time, Gadget! Next time!

Very much enjoyed working on this piece, though it was hard, hard work. Looking forward to sending it off to its new home, once I'm done with the rest of the commissions for the same client. I'm still working through a backlog of jobs (some of which are delegated), and feel it best to say that we won't be taking on anything else for this year while we clear the decks.

As usual, you can click the image for a larger view. This thing is the devil itself to photograph, so more shots will be put up as and when I feel they're good enough.

Viking Infantry Equipment Kit Available Now

And another new product! Here we have a Viking Infantry Equipment set, comprising of a hand axe, broadsword and scabbard and a wooden Viking shield. The scale is again suitable for 28-35mm scale 'heroic' fantasy or sci-fi miniatures.

The set is available from us directly at £3 per set, plus p&p - contact enquiries@winterdyne.co.uk to place an order.

The set is also available on ebay here, where the postage and all relevant fees are included int he price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170841626678

As ever you can click the images for a larger view.

Cretian (Minotaurs) Infantry Equipment Set Available Now

Another infantry equipment set is now available. Containing shield and handle, Cretian style sword and scabbard and a long trident, this set is ideal for building up models with an ancient Greek theme. The Minotaur head on the shield is sculpted on, but would be simple enough to file back if a plain shield was wanted. To assemble this kit you'll need a soft sanding stick or fine (600 and 1200 grit) emery papers to clean up the casting channels from the trident points.
This kit is provided unpainted and unassembled. Scenic items are not included.
Pricing is £3.00 per set plus P&P from me directly - contact enquiries@winterdyne.co.uk or you can buy from ebay here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170841625201, where the pricing per set includes P&P and all fees, so is a little higher.
As ever you can click the images for a larger view.

Macross / Robotech Regult Tactical Pod (Preproduction)

The first Regult Tactical Pod of the bunch I have got some paint thrown at it recently. These models are quite fiddly to put together, but look pretty good when done. Trickiest part is cleaning up the parts prior to assembly and painting. Also made some tweaks to the Tomahawk, so there are some update shots of that below. As ever you can click any of the images for a larger view.

Macross / Robotech Destroid Tomahawk Preproduction Model

I was lucky enough to get a bunch of preproduction models for a Macross / Robotech miniatures game. And they're lovely. The client is still attempting to secure licensing and wants to set their game around the first Zentraedi conflict - so if you are, or you know someone at either Harmony Gold (Robotech) or Studio Nue (Macross) please drop us an email so we can get contact made with the manufacturer.

I've built a fair few types of Tomahawk, and this is one of the nicer ones. For a gaming piece it's ideal - enough detail to be fun to paint (and to look the part) but not too much to clutter the piece and make it difficult to paint. This one went from bare resin to finished inside of 5 hours (including cleaning and drying the resin). Pretty good for a model of which there are only likely to be half a dozen in a force.

As ever, you can click the images for a larger view.

Black Scorpion Miniatures Wild West Stuff

Here's a few quick tabletop jobs on some Black Scorpion Minatures wild west stuff for a mate, and as a break from the onslaught of GW stuff that is my primary commission queue. As ever, you can click the images for a larger view.

Another Blood Angels Assault squad

Another squad from the BA army done. My large blue backsheet is now retired, and I'm out of printer ink, so it's a funky purple this time round for the group shot. As ever you can click the images for larger views.

Spartan Equipment Kit available now!

Our first accessory kit is now available - the Spartan infantry Equipment kit.

The kit comprises a one-part long thrusting spear, a two-part shield (handle and shield) and a Lakonian style shortsword and scabbard. The spear is exactly the same design as used on the Sanguinary Phalanx commission.

The kit is priced at £3.00 per set plus P&P direct from us and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Terrain also not included. You can order by emailing us directly on enquiries@winterdyne.co.uk.

Alternatively, we've also listed it on eBay here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170841621690
The listing there includes postage and all relevant fees, so the price is significantly higher.

The kit is cast in high quality, reasonably flexible resin, so the spear staff shouldn't snap unless treated roughly. As ever you can click the images for a larger view.
