A tutorial regarding some of the techniques I used on the Ultramarines commissions is now available as a .pdf file here. Covered are preparation and cleanup of metal miniatures and zenital highlighting. I hope this is found interesting and helpful.

This is brilliant Winterdyne. Could I have your permission to repost this on MyWargame?
Sure, post a link to this blog too though. :-) It's likely my next tutorial will be based around an Imperial Fists tactical squad (from AoBR).
Excellent write-up Winterdyne and they look fantastic!
Great job. Very well done :)
Winterdyne...what colors would use use to achieve the same effect for red? Making Sons of Orar, not Blood Angels...so not as much orange (if any).
I'd try:
Black Undercoat
VMC Burnt Cadmium Red (Initial & 1st Zenital)
VMC Flat Red (2nd Zenital)
VMC Flat Red / Bleached Bone (3:1) (3rd)
VMC Flat Red / Bleached Bone (1:1) (Final Zenital)
Baal Red glaze.
The more intermediate mixes you do, the smoother the result will be.
Thanks for the reply Winterdyne! I'll give it a try!
wow this is amazing! great writeup!
Nice, I love it, I'm wondering what you would do for Dark Angels? I've tried, but they came out looking rather neonish, but then again i tried the white over black zenithal highlighting try...
Black undercoat, DA green initial coat, then depending on what overall tone you're going for up through Camo Green or Snot Green to those with a bit of bleached bone in... Then glaze back down with a green / black mix if you have to. Something like that.
