Tom in NEW YORK 'til the 6th March

Another one of us hopping over to the other side of the pond!
I will be in New York from tonight until the 6th of March on a Uni trip. I have got 20 more Elysians painted (10 drop troops and 10 shotgun vets), just some minor details to finish. I will finish them up and get photos of them up when I get back including a group shot of the 35 finished models. I just thought I'd update my progress.

News: Maz away for 2 weeks...

Tonight I'm heading down to Gatwick with my fiancee for a flight to Las Vegas to get married and do the honeymoon thing for a week or so - with no kids in tow, this should be awesome! Elvis, pink Cadillacs, tuxedos and gambling. Tackier than a bottle of scatter grip, and three times the fun.

I'll be back to work in around 2 weeks (allowing a few days to recover). In the meanwhile, any updates to the blog will be done by the relevant artists. Emails to us will be answered and dealt with on my return.

For Sale: Black Ork Down diorama

Up for sale is Rebecca Hubbard's neat little diorama, 'Black Ork Down', which was entered at Golden Demon UK 2010. The diorama measures approximately 7 inches (18cm) by 4 inches (10cm) and is around 3 1/2 inches (9cm) high. We're open to reasonable offers in the region of £120.

WIP Legions Of The Space Marines (2)

Here is the second installment of "The Legions of the Space Marines".
I have assembled seven more legions which include a Librarian, a Chaplain and Marines with flamers, meltas and a missile launcher.
Here is my work in progress Thousands Sons Librarian which still needs some more work like adding studs to the left leg and making some new armour pannels for the right shoulder. This is has been heavily converted using a variety of bits, a bit of sculpting like the loin cloth made from greenstuff and a few Forge World brass etch eagles to add a little detail.
The Forge World Maximus armour set was used as basis for this chaplain using a dark angel book for the right hand and converting his Crozius using a banner icon and a thunder hammer hand. I used a Games Workshop Skull for his head , I might bulk out the head slightly as it might be slightly small but I haven't made my mind up yet.

Please check back soon for more updates, assembly and hopefully some painting. As I can't wait to paint these models. Thanks For Looking!

WIP 'Grey Seer Skrittar' (3)

Another update on the Skrittar build being done by Mark.

Mark explains the progress so far:
"The seer needs his head making, and his pendant, but otherwise is nearing completion. With the mouthpieces on the pananquin back taking shape, the chair itself is also getting close to complete.
The bearers have been partially built, so I thought it was time for a very rough mockup of the final piece. They'll be bulked out in the legs before the weight of the chair is added through the arms. I'll also be making the hands on the palanquin poles separate from the bearers for ease of painting.

And of course, at the bottom, there's the little two headed rat. Once I sculpt the fur around his neck, he'll be all set."

As usual you can click on the images for a larger view. Click on the reference artwork above to go to the Games Workshop website where you can buy the book ('Uniforms and Heraldry of the Skaven') it was taken from.

WIP Space Hulk Terminators and CAT (9)

Wow, hard to believe this is the ninth update on this commission. Squad Lorenzo is now pretty much done, with the exception of the Sergeant himself. Hopefully I'll get him finished for the weekend, leaving just the Librarian and the Lightning Claw Terminator to do next week before I fly to Las Vegas for my wedding. It's very likely that I'll tweak the foliage some as I'm not very happy with the paintwork on some of the brass etch. Also the coarse turf scatter could do with staining to give it some variety. I'll do this sort of thing in one batch once everything's finished. More pics below, as usual, click the images for a larger view.

WIP 'Grey Seer Skrittar' (2)

Mark's work on the 'Skrittar' sculpt continues, and the palanquin has started to take shape. Mark explains:

'The basic torso is now shaped, next will come the arms and then the shoulder robe (almost looks like a poncho really) can go on. So the staff arm and the body will soon be joined together.

The palanquin has really taken shape now. The carry loops for the wooden rods will be fully circular when finished and the very front edge of the palanquin needs finishing with a row of spikes, and the back will be built up around the central spine (literally!). There are also finishing details such as rivet heads to go on now as well.

With the rods in place, the palanquin bearers can now be set into posture. The key is going to be making it look like they're carrying the weight and not just walking under a hovering chair.'

As usual you can click on the images for a larger view. Click on the reference artwork to go to the Games Workshop website where you can buy the book ('Uniforms and Heraldry of the Skaven') it was taken from.

WIP Legions Of The Space Marines

This is the start of my latest Commission.  The job is make a display of all the First Founding Legions of the Space Marines. This will include 15 Marines, 3 Terminators most of the Legions will be individually converted to represent things such as Chaplains, Librarians and Demolition troops. All the figure will be display on a custom built display base. Today, Work started with the first two Marines (Ultramarine's & Emperors Children).

After this I started painting with pre-shading with an airbrush. I sprayed the Ultramarine with mordian blue then highlighted with mordian blue & space wolves grey taking care to leave the shadows. I did same for the emperors children except with different colours using liche purple for a basecoat and then highlighting with liche purple and kommando khaki.

That is it for now. There will be more soon, I will be finishing these off next week and will be starting on next figures and base soon! Thanks For Looking!
